Since the end of August, UFO-Science is part of the lightning detection stations BLITZORTUNG private network. .
These stations capture electromagnetic signals emitted during storms, allowing computing the impact area of lightning. The exact time is simultaneously recorded. The spatial resolution, less than a kilometer, is equivalent to the resolution of professional lightning detection networks.
Determining and predicting a storm course brings two main advantages :
- Time to shelter soon enough any acquisition equipment like SADEPAN or UFOCATCH.
- Post analyze the stormy sequence and associated electromagnetic phenomenon as the potential cause of unknown aerospace phenomenon (fireball, impacts, high intensity light effects…).
